About

Co-presented by Capitol Hill Block Party

In this classic fable directed by Ridley Scott, the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry) seeks to master the Power of Light and bend it to his will through the spiritual seduction of a young princess (Mia Sara); a forest-dwelling hunk (Tom Cruise) and a bevy of elves, fairies and dwarves band together in a quest to retrieve her from Darkness’s imprisoning temple. Sumptuous photography and compelling physical effects and environments blend into a fantastic, otherworldly atmosphere that distinguishes Legend as a jewel in the crown among children’s films.

“While Lazer Kitty might be expected to reach for the stars (so to speak) in our choice of film, we felt Ridley Scott’s Legend — with its wall-to-wall, timeless, deeply immersive fantasy world — was the perfect fit. Darkness and light, as with all natural dynamics, are important thematic resources for Lazer Kitty and our music. We already explore these themes sonically, and the opportunity to perform our music alongside a film that vividly illustrates good and evil, innocence and guilt, love and fear — in such a strikingly beautiful way — was too good to pass up. Even the film’s multiple “soundtracks” are the stuff of legend, with two different versions that included contributions by Jerry Goldsmith (having worked three times the normal amount of time he spends on a score only to have it replaced in the US release), Tangerine Dream, Jon Anderson of Yes, Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music, John Bettis (frequent Carpenters composer), and Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour.  Lazer Kitty is proud to present a third (and radically different) score for this landmark achievement of 1980s cinema.” — Lazer Kitty
