Children's Film Festival Seattle

Children's Film Festival Seattle is presented by Northwest Film Forum. Last year, Children's Film Festival Seattle presented 86 films from 25 countries. Children's Film Festival Seattle 2010 will take place in Northwest Film Forum's two cinemas, with screenings offered to both the general public and school groups. Dates for the 2010 Festival are January 22 - 31, with additional screenings for school groups scheduled Monday - Friday, February 1 - 19.

Children's Film Festival Seattle provides an artistic alternative to mainstream commercial media and creates a reliable venue for filmmakers who make great films for children, youth, and families. We promote debate, discussion, and spark new interests in different languages and ways of life by showing innovative, inspiring and fun films from around the globe. We provide opportunities for Seattle's many ethnic communities to connect with and celebrate powerful images of their own homelands and cultures, and encourage our audience members to sharpen their critical eyes through workshops with professional actors, directors, writers, technicians, and producers.

Children's Film Festival Seattle is an annual, competitive international festival curated by Elizabeth Shepherd. Shepherd is also the curator of the annual REDCAT International Children's Film Festival, which is presented annually at Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

All entries to Children's Film Festival Seattle 2010 will also be considered for inclusion in the REDCAT festival.

Silence is Golden

This fall the Northwest Film Forum’s quarterly film challenge asks local filmmakers to stretch their imaginations and create a silent film. Those who participate will be challenged to think back to the early days of film, before characters had a material voice, and create a five-minute short within the constraints of image alone. Participants will be allowed to use music to drive the story, but there must not be a single spoken word uttered, whether that be by a character, a voice-over or an omnipotent presence. Any music should be instrumental only. So forget about talkies kids, silence is golden!

Films are due November 1. Films will screen November 21 at 8pm at NWFF.

The project is open to all levels of skills and experience. Send to: Northwest Film Forum, c/o Adam Sekuler, 1515 12th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122.
