GiveBIG 2017

GiveBIG, the day-long fundraiser for Seattle nonprofits, is TODAY, May 10th! We're taking a moment to reflect on the impact of our work so far in 2017 and gear up for the weeks and month ahead. What does creative resistance look like at Northwest Film Forum? In the first 100 days, we've kept busy:
- On the eve of the inauguration, we convened a packed-to-the-gills meet-up for filmmakers and grassroots groups to spark new activist film projects
- We brought in a record number of school groups (33 in total, from Seattle to Shoreline and beyond!) to watch films in Children’s Film Festival Seattle
- Hosted 14 visiting artists from 8 countries
- Offered over 20 free workshops, networking opportunities, film screenings & public discussions for filmmakers, artists, and the community
- Taught 400 film & media makers in 35 workshops
- Granted $2,000 in edit lab and gear access to support 21 filmmaker projects
- Hosted camps and workshops with partners like Reel Grrls, Coyote Central, Blanket Fort Films, and Seattle Documentary Association
- Conceived, organized, and launched The Seventh Art Stand, a national Islamophobia awareness campaign and film series taking place at over 50 venues in half the country
- Launched The Shadow Council with Brett Hamil, a monthly people's legislative body for civic discussion and action
- Donated hundreds of hours of venue space to artists and community groups
- Sponsored and produced fundraising events for independent media outlet The Establishment, the Northwest Detention Center Resistance, and Social Justice Fund
This year on GiveBIG, we aim to raise $15,000 for a critically needed new website. The project is underway with a late summer launch date. Thanks to a matching gift from one generous board member, the first $5,000 in donations will be doubled.
