The Voice of the Moon

Jul 25, 2013

(Federico Fellini, Italy, 1990, 35mm, 123 min)

Rare 35mm print!

Federico Fellini's final film is a fitting coda to his five decades as one of the world’s foremost artists. Tantalizingly, The Voice of the Moon was never released in the United States - our screening is a rare opportunity to see it on the big screen, and in sparkling 35mm.

"If things were a little quieter, we might understand something," observes idiot-savant hero Ivo (played by famous Italian comedian and Oscar-winner Roberto Benigni), a former mental patient who wanders through a world of strange dreams (and often stranger realities). Ivo and his compatriot Gonnella are heirs to Laurel and Hardy, as they search for the meaning of life, moving toward silences and away from the sounds and fury of the world. We hope you can join us for a film that bewildered the critics on its release, but stands as a final salvo from one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.
