We might have recognized him most as Columbo, but we also knew him as the stagnating suburban husband Archie Black and as Nick Longhetti, who reluctantly commits his wife to a mental institution. Peter Falk was a giant of acting; a man whose range and skill were unparalleled in his generation. He was a gutsy experimenter and improviser in works by John Cassavetesm where Falk did mesmerizing work as part of the Cassavetes Repertory Company, along with Gena Rowlands, John Marley, Seymour Cassel and Val Avery. We honor this late giant with a double feature of two films he starred in by Cassavetes, Husbands and Woman Under The Influence. In Husbands, Falk is off to London, where he and two pals (Cassavetes and Ben Gazzara) try to shake things up. But their attempts at an affair don't quite work out as planned. Falk showed a dramatic side in this 1970 Cinéma Vérité experiment. And in A Woman Under the Influence, Falk continued the drama as he demonstrated a vulnerability that marked this as one of the more ambitious movies of his career. This is a double feature bill. Tickets are $12 general and $9 members. A 20-minute intermission will follow the screening of Husbands.
